Vera Morais – EUPNEA

Portuguese singer, improviser, and composer Vera Morais, together with her ensemble EUPNEA, presents a nuanced project that bridges jazz and contemporary music. Voices and flutes merge into a unified sound, conceived less as a traditional ensemble and more as a single, living instrument. Drawing on the sonic affinities of both instruments, Morais develops a stripped-down, immediate form of chamber music. Her work operates at the intersection of composition and improvisation, focusing on the voice as an independent, malleable instrument. Following the single “mirror error” (2023), her self-titled debut album was released in February 2026 on Carimbo Porta-Jazz. It crystallizes an approach that expands technical possibilities and questions familiar role models. The concert opens up a focused listening space in which sound, breath, and silence relate to one another with precision. The concert is presented in cooperation with NICA artist development and Porta Jazz.
