Born in 1993, Henriette Eilertsen was the first flutist in Norway to earn a bachelor’s degree in jazz flute from the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. This may seem like a footnote, but it illustrates just how much the flute continues to be a niche instrument even today. Already with her debut album “Poems for Flute”, Eilertsen brought the stylistic diversity and aesthetic uniqueness of the flute into focus, playing her instrument with captivating improvisational artistry and dazzling brilliance.
She is coming to Cologne with her trio, with whom she recently released “Moder” (in English “Mother”). Her music is both powerful and sensitive; her playing on the flute is emblematic and mysterious. She loves the high registers of her instrument, which can be equally crystalline and warm. And Eilertsen loves the interplay with drums and guitar, where repetitive patterns that sound like minimal music eventually create a trance-like, ritualistic atmosphere.
