GERMAN JAZZ PRIZE 2024:
Born in 1994, New York drummer and percussionist Lesley Mok present their 2023 debut album “The Living Collection” at Cologne Jazzweek, which documents their ongoing explorations with composition and improvisation, which they recorded with a ten-piece chamber ensemble. The album received a nomination for the “German Jazz Award” 2024 as “International Debut Album of the Year”. Mok were a resident artist at Roulette Intermedium in 2022. Their works have been commissioned and performed by the International Contemporary Ensemble and the JACK Quartet. As a percussionist, Mok played with Tomeika Reid, William Parker, Ingrid Laubrock and Mary Halvorson. They also work as an interdisciplinary artist in the fields of sound, installation, film and theatre with a focus on queer and feminist art practices, Chinese philosophy, Afro-Cuban music traditions, futurist perspectives and ancestral knowledge inscribed in the body.
