“My music is always the sum of the companions and musicians I have met in my life who have shaped me,” says Entzian, describing her artistic philosophy. For her, the focus is on the people from whom the network, a web of jazz music, is spun: every connecting point ensures that the structure works. Every thread is part of the whole.
Entzian likes to compose for large ensembles, because a jazz orchestra in particular functions according to this principle – by linking the individual players. With her own jazz orchestra Hendrika Entzian +, with whom she released her album “Marble”, she was nominated for the German Jazz Award in 2021. Now she is composing and arranging for the Bundesjazzorchester (Bujazzo) and will be rehearsing with the young talents for almost a week in Heek this summer.
The result is a program that combines joy and diversity: borrowings from pop, jazz and avant-garde combine seamlessly to weave a musical web that sometimes sounds floatingly free, sometimes densely branched. Hendrika Entzian’s compositions transcend genre boundaries.
