Born in Italy and based in Leipzig, saxophonist, composer, and producer Damian Dalla Torre is one of the most exciting voices of a new generation bridging contemporary jazz, ambient, and experimental pop. In his music, he combines acoustic instruments with subtle electronic processing, creating soundscapes of great atmospheric density and emotional depth. Dalla Torre has garnered international attention, particularly since his album ‘I Can Feel My Dreams’ (2024), which was named the best contemporary album of the year by ‘The Guardian’. His work has taken him to stages across Europe, Japan, and the U.S., showcasing an artist who increasingly conceives of sound as an environment and an experience.
With his new album ‘People Pleaser‘, her now opens a new chapter. Born out of a period of growing artistic self-assurence, the music revolves around themes of expectation, pressure, and personal growth, without losing any of its openness. The title is deliberately ambiguous, inviting listeners to draw their own conclusions. At the heart of the album is the collaboration with other musicians, whose diverse sonic languages merge into a finely woven whole within Dalla Torre’s compositions. This collaborative energy also shapes the live experience: at Cologne Jazzweek, he will perform in a trio with harpist Babett Niclas and guitarist Markus Rom. Together, they create an intimate yet expansive sound that bridges organic improvisation and subtle electronic elements.
The concert is presented in cooperation with NICA artist development and Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige.
