Born in 1981, trumpeter and composer Peter Evans is regarded as one of the leading voices in the field of solo improvisation in jazz, avant-garde and new music. Evans has played in various contexts, including with Peter Brötzmann, Mary Halvorson, Evan Parker, Matana Roberts, Tyshawn Sorey and John Zorn. In 2011 he founded his own label More Is More Records. His concerts have been described in the New York Times as “an enigmatic ritual of physical exertion and formal control” and as “breathtaking and often unsettling”. All About Jazz said of his 2009 solo album “Nature/Culture”: “Evans stacks timbres and textures in dizzying profusion until any relationship to the traditional musical universe disappears and the listener is left drifting in a sound world governed by its own internal logic.”
