Perselí

Perselí is a trio with four voices: Mexican singer Fuensanta Méndez sings and plays the double bass, while José Soares plays the saxophone and Alistair Payne the trumpet. The Mexican, the Portuguese, and the British musician came together as a band in 2018 in Amsterdam, which is home to all three. Together, they aim to tell musical stories that sound like a gentle breeze rustling through the leaves and offer hope for a life free of worries. Their chamber music-style lineup is particularly effective, offering a wide range of sonic and textural possibilities: with improvised passages and lyrical phrases reminiscent of chamber music, with quiet songs and poetic lyrics that evoke memories of folk songs and folklore, and with imaginary soundscapes that transform the real world around us into music. Above all, however, Perselí is a collective that composes and writes music and lyrics together, inspiring one another with ideas to create a sound all their own.
