Neon Dilemma is a collaborative band featuring Elias Stemeseder (piano), an Austrian musician who divides his time between Berlin and New York, along with Robert Landfermann (bass) and Leif Berger (drums) from Cologne. Using acoustic and electronic instruments, these three protagonists of jazz-based improvisational music engage in a discourse on the possibilities of contemporary ensemble playing with historical instrumentation. Concepts and ideas from diverse geographical and temporal origins are repurposed into novel organizing principles that enable the ensemble to harmonize seemingly disparate musical elements. Thus, delicate counterpoint and dancing polyrhythms effortlessly coexist alongside raw sound towers, vehement chord clusters, and simple singability.
