The trio, featuring Kathrin Pechlof (harp), Christian Weidner (saxophone), and Robert Landfermann (bass), has been together for 15 years. Over time, this Berlin-Cologne ensemble has developed a form of interaction rooted in a deep bond. Because the dynamic range of the harp is limited, Pechlof, Weidner, and Landfermann focus on quiet chamber music that leaves ample space for the harp’s nuanced timbres. The music benefits from the fact that Pechlof, born in Munich in 1978, first studied classical harp before training in jazz composition at the Cologne University of Music and Dance and subsequently moving to Berlin, where she became part of an internationally renowned jazz scene. She is therefore equally well-versed in classical and contemporary music as she is in jazz and improvisational music; she understands both what unites these genres and what sets them apart. The trio does not follow a set concept; rather, a familiarity that has grown over the years largely determines the direction of the music.
