The figure of La Santa Muerte (“Saint Death”) plays a particularly important role in Mexican Christian folklore. This is a female skeleton with a scythe often wearing a red, white, green and black cloak and a crown on her skull. People often hope for love, luck, protection and health from La Santa Muerte and sacrifice roses, cigars or even tequila to her. Berlin-based Finnish guitarist Kalle Kalima and Cologne-based drummer Mareike Wiening have named their duo after this cult. Together they fuse their instruments, guitar and drumset, into an emotional, powerful unit. Their music is bursting with energy and intensity, it is free and unbound and sounds as if it wants to ignite the passion of experimental rock in jazz: ritualistic and spiritual at the same time.
