FIELD feat. Marc Ducret

free

FIELD is the name of a quartet nominally led by Berlin saxophonist Uli Kempendorff, but which sees itself as a cooperative of equals. In any case, it is a band that often transforms complex structures and seemingly insurmountable textures into emotionally dense and eloquent improvisational music. “Windows” is a six-part suite by FIELD’s drummer, the Dane Peter Bruun, which will have its world premiere at Cologne Jazzweek. “Windows” are to be understood metaphorically in Bruun’s composition, as the musicians adopt different rhythmic perspectives through their improvisational approaches to work with the existing material and simultaneously set it in motion through parallel processes. Joining them is French guitarist Marc Ducret, a long-time collaborator who has also participated in Bruun’s research project on “rhythm design.” With his expressive and energetic playing on the electric guitar, he adds dynamically nuanced sound processes to this close-knit quartet.
