Regardless of whether young British musician Laura Jurd draws inspiration from jazz or rock, orchestral new music or archaic folklore, her music becomes a multi-layered hybrid that is often aesthetically and stylistically heterogeneous. The trumpeter and composer is concerned with authenticity and individuality in her music, and she also wants to give the musicians in her various large ensembles the opportunity to reveal their own identities through their personal expressions. Jurd has recently discovered her love for traditional music and folklore even more when she formed the Trio Lau with Irish fiddle player Ultan O’Brien and her compatriot Martin Green on accordion. With her new quartet, she goes one step further. The dynamic guitar-drums tandem with Tara Cunningham and Corrie Dick becomes the basis for an imaginary folklore that allows her on the trumpet and Cori Smith on the violin to play across different musical genres as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
