It’s back! After more than five years of renovating the building, structures, and concepts, the Filmhaus Cologne is reopening at its familiar address at Maybachstraße 111 with a new team in newly designed rooms:
As a meeting place and interface for film audiences and filmmakers, it now offers events, educational programs, networking opportunities, and work opportunities for all forms of film art. The Filmhaus Köln is an institution and, according to its own self-image, a dynamic platform that is driven by a passion for the moving image itself, with the aim of anchoring film cultures as a participatory opportunity in the urban landscape. Beyond the daily cinema program, Cologne residents, professionals from the North Rhine-Westphalia region, and the film avant-garde, representatives from schools, continuing education, and universities, and, last but not least, media experts are invited to establish a home for film in Cologne with many screens.
Specifically, the Filmhaus is a meeting place in the neighborhood and a hub for the international film scene: The beautiful, bright foyer with a small café bar welcomes everyone who simply cannot imagine Cologne without cinema posters, family Sundays, and the summer film festival with its open-air program. As a center for film art, the Filmhaus’s networked structures are made available to those who are looking for secure workflows for their filmmaking.
The Filmhaus is accessible to wheelchair users. There is an elevator to all floors. The cinema auditorium itself is accessible without steps and has two wheelchair spaces. The restroom is also barrier-free. For blind and visually impaired people, there is a tactile guidance system in front of the building and Braille on handrails and in the elevator. Visits with guide dogs are possible.
