Belgian electric bassist and sound artist Farida Amadou immersed herself in Belgium’s improvisation scene in the mid-2010s. After a year as a bassist in the punk band Cocain Piss, she began focussing on her solo improvisation practice in 2018, working with musicians such as Thurston Moore, Peter Brötzmann, Terrie Ex and poet and singer Camae Ayewa aka Moor Mother. Amadou experiments with drones and noise elements as well as loudspeaker feedback. During her time at the Monheim Triennale, she came into contact with the Cologne improvisation scene. She will be presenting the results at Cologne Jazzweek in a quartet with experimental hip-hop and jazz drummer and electronic musician Lukas König from Vienna, Belgian keyboardist and improvisation musician Marlies Debacker from the Cologne improvisation collective IMPAKT and Cologne trumpeter and electronic musician Pablo Giw, who artfully explores the improvisation spectrum with extended playing techniques and electronic sound processing.
