Armbruster & Heck – Plexus

PLEXUS with trombonist Carlotta Armbruster and drummer Jonas Heck is an innovative element in the young contemporary jazz scene. In their duo, the two Cologne-based musicians explore the possibilities of their unconventional instrumentation without being limited by harmony and bass instruments. This allows them to make fresh, improvisational and interactive music based on contemporary pieces and original compositions. Unfamiliar sounds, new structures and an intensive dialog lead the listeners on paths away from established listening habits. Form and structure are created through a balanced relationship between abstractness, clear motifs and catchy melodies, and the duo has already won several awards. It won the main prize in the “Jugend Jazzt” competition in 2022 and was a prizewinner at the renowned international “Biberacher Jazzpreis”. In 2023, PLEXUS recorded its debut album for Deutschlandfunk.
