The duo with Johannes Schleiermacher (saxophone, flute, synthesizer) and Max Andrzejewski (drums, synthesizer, electronics, voice) is simply called TRAINING. With this name for their duo, the two Berlin musicians stand for the greatest possible musical freedom. The starting point is often immediate, permeable, undogmatic compositional miniatures that become a springboard for ecstasy and spirituality. In Max Andrzejewski’s HÜTTE and its worldwide festival appearances, the “lateral thinker-aesthete” (Süddeutsche Zeitung) Andrzejewski and the “form-blasting” (Die ZEIT) Schleiermacher have been able to deepen their collaboration over the past ten years. At Cologne Jazzweek, Schleiermacher and Andrzejewski will be joined by Ruth Goller, an electric bassist who lives in London and was born and raised in South Tyrol. With her, they experiment with “Cadavre Exquis” (actually a party game in which you continue to draw a picture together based only on a small, visible part of what you have previously painted) on an energetic music of meandering grooves, instrumental-vocal interlacing and weightless unison melodies.
