Japanese koto virtuoso Michiyo Yagi has been playing together with her compatriot, drummer Tamaya Honda, since 2007. For their improvisational music, in which they often integrate elements of the world’s musical cultures, Yagi and Honda like to bring in a guest as a third member. For their concert at Cologne Jazzweek, they chose the Norwegian bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, with whom Yagi first worked together in 2005. Together, the three of them will experiment with an explosively powerful improvisational approach.
