Nefertiti Quartet & Frederik Köster

Named after a composition by Wayne Shorter, the young French band around pianist and composer Delphine Deau is already celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. The anniversary is accompanied by the release of their fourth album ‘Live in Paris’ (BERTHOLD Records) dedicated to that place where Camille Maussion, Pierre Demange, Pedro Ivo Ferreira and Delphine Deau first met and decided to make music together. The band loves to play freely and shows it more than before on the upcoming release. After frolicking and shadow play, the form emerges and the composition crystallizes. Paradoxical and liberating in a delightful way. After many years of collaboration and friendship, the band performs with a matured and well-rehearsed band sound.

The Nefertiti Quartet won the 2019 Euroradio Jazz Competition and was a selected band for Jazz Migration #5, a support program of the Association Jazzé Croisé (AJC). In April, Delphine Deau was a guest in Cologne as part of the Constellations pilot project, of which NICA artist development is a part. She got to know venues, musicians and other actors of the scene. The concert in the context of ‘NICA exchange’ is a direct continuation of this research stay and will be a feature of the local scene.

NICA exchange takes place in cooperation of the artist:inside support program NICA artist development and Cologne Jazzweek. The main focus of the concert series, initiated in 2022, is to create spaces of exchange for a young, experimental generation of musicians, to encourage sustainable networking and creative exchange, and at the same time, in the context of the festival, to initiate the connection with an audience eager to discover.
